“To question one’s existence is inherent to the human being, and this is the basis of the construction of mythical universes created by the many indigenous cultures. In this painting series, Esther Cuéllar returns to the roots of the cosmic thinking of different Colombian indigenous groups. Within these mythologies, the paintings illustrate the questions of Who am I? Where do We come from? Where do I go? And through the interwoven images, explosions of color show an inquiry of the past towards a search for origins. The series is also an exploration of different forms, abstract shapes and textures inspired by each mythology, each story set out to build a synesthetic image that tells a different kind of genesis, the origin of all things. The artist then shows us, through a vast exploration of color, the strength and nature that characterizes the cultures of her past, the roots of existence that lie within the Colombian indigenous universe. Each painting is a unique experience, an adventure that wants to lead its viewer to wonder about the origin of everything, just as Esther Cuéllar does with her art and her country, Colombia”.
